Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can expect discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
